What are some of the top priorities for new product management teams?

The first and most important thing for new product management teams is to get out of the building! In most cases, product managers on newly formed teams have technical backgrounds. The single most important skill your people can acquire is knowledge of the customer’s business — what they do, why they do it, and how people do their jobs. It’s also critical to understand how the jobs of your users impact the business goals established at the senior management and executive levels. The more customer knowledge your people have, the more common sense the product manager role will be.
